VM Will Not Delete
Quick Fix
Delete fails
- Check the lock icon next to the VM. If it says Server Locked, click it and choose Unlock. A locked VM cannot be deleted. This is the cause in most cases.
- Click Delete once.
- Wait for the "VM deleted" message. It takes a few minutes.
Why a delete takes a few minutes
Before the VM is removed, we stop it and archive its disk. A large disk takes longer. The VM stays in the list until this is finished.
Click once, then wait
Do not click Delete again, and do not lock or unlock the VM or change its power while the delete runs. A repeated click is ignored. Locking the VM in the middle of the run makes the delete fail, and then you have to start it again.
Messages you may see
| Message | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Unlock server to delete / Unlock VM to delete | The VM is locked | Unlock it, then delete |
| Cannot delete locked servers | One of the selected VMs is locked | Unlock it, then delete |
| VM is protected, cannot delete | The VM is locked | Unlock it, then delete |
Still in the list
If the VM is still listed 15 minutes after the "VM deleted" message, or the delete fails while the VM is unlocked, open a support ticket with the VM ID.
